Not many things come easy for a medical student. Add up the hours spent attending lectures, studying for exams, traveling between internships and part-time work—and you’ll find a group of people whose schedules and lives are stretched extremely thin. The aftershocks of this stress and pressure are felt throughout the healthcare industry, often resulting in an all-too-common burnout. It’s a vulnerability that is often hidden behind their well-deserved, community-focused merit—their sacrifice and dedication to putting others first.

Understanding this dichotomy, Yoshi, a med student living in Los Angeles, decided to apply to our Thrive Gives program. She knew that eating a clean, healthy diet should be accessible for everyone, even on a med student’s schedule and budget.

Whatever time she spent driving to a grocery store, finding a spot in an overstuffed parking lot, and wading through overwhelmingly bright and confusing aisles was time she was able to regain for herself. On the other side of a global health pandemic, we were reminded first-hand how important our healthcare workers and med students are to a functioning, healthy society. Folks like Yoshi who center their work on the lives of others deserve whatever support we can offer — and that’s why we created Thrive Gives.
