Rooted in West Africa, Alaffia is a fair trade skin care company leveraging one of Togo’s most sustainable resources: the shea tree. When founders Olowo-n’djo Tchala and Rose Hyde started production on the brand’s chemical-free soaps, creams, and cleansers, they wanted to provide jobs for locals as a nod to Tchala’s mother, who didn’t learn to read or write. In addition to helping women move from poverty to stability, Alaffia diverts a percentage of sales to local projects focusing on gender equality, maternal health, and reforestation in Togolese communities.
